Digital On-site Exams

A digital exam is equivalent to a traditional paper exam, except that students write the exam digitally on their own computers. Access to computer programs and materials is blocked during the exam using the Schoolyear app. The exam is written in Moodle and will be found on the course page on the exam day.

Note that

• you need to be an administrator on your own computer to be able to install the app.
• you need a computer with an updated operating system - Windows 11 or for Mac OS at least v14.5
• Schoolyear does not support use of the web browser Safari.
• Schoolyear does not work with a Chrome Book

Before the exam

To be able to do the exam, you need before the exam, to download and install the Schoolyear app.

In the Moodle course Schoolyear test 2025  there is a detailed description of how to download and install the Schoolyear App. You also find a test exam there, that you should try after the installation. 

You need to have installed the app and done the test exam before your exam!

• For a PC, one installation of Schoolyear is enough. When you are starting your exam, if there is a Schoolyear update, a new version is automatically downloaded before the exam starts.
• For Macs, the same procedure with downloading needs to be re-don when the exam is started, you are taken to Schoolyear´s homepage - download the app, and install it again.
• In the exam situation, go into your Moodle course, start your exam. Now Schoolyear will take over your computer. You are logged out from your computer, and when you log in again, you give the course keyword (given to you by the custodian) and can start your exam.

NOTE see that your Hanken wireless network eduroam is installed and works!

If you have a computer from your job, and cannot install yourself, you need to ask your job IT staff for help.

Note that the files are quite large, so control the space available on your computer´s hard disk before the installation. Also check that you have updated your computer with the latest updates.
