Rune Stenbacka appointed research professor at Hanken

Rune Stenbacka, Dean of Research and Professor of Economics at Hanken School of Economics, has been appointed research professor. Stenbacka will begin his two-year professorship on 1 January 2015 and his term will run until 31 December 2016.

During his research professorship, Rune Stenbacka will be freed from teaching and administrative duties and he will thus be able to focus entirely on research.

- It is both a privilege and stimulating challenge to focus exclusively on research in competition economics for a period of two years with Hanken's support. The timing of the research professorship is optimal considering existing and planned projects, Rune Stenbacka says.

This is the second time Hanken appoints a research professor, which is a natural step in the work to strengthen Hanken's profile as an international, research-oriented university. The appointment is made taking into account previous research qualifications and the applicant's research promise, based on a clearly formulated research plan.

- Research is the cornerstone of all our activities and is also a variable in university funding. Notwithstanding that Hanken has done well in recent years from a research standpoint, we must be aware that competition is increasing all the time and we must continually develop and renew both ourselves and the knowledge we create, Rector Eva Liljeblom emphasises.

At present the research professorship is held by Eero Vaara, whose term ends 31 December 2014.
