Hanken joins network to protect scholars

Scholars at Risk (SAR) is an international network of more than 460 higher education institutions in 35 countries working to protect threatened scholars. Hanken is one of ten Finnish universities to launch a Finnish collaboration SAR-network.

SAR protects scholars suffering grave threats to their lives, liberty and well-being by engaging institutions in a global effort and activities in support of academic freedom. The scholars are invited to attend seminars and are offered positions as visiting scholars at the SAR-universities.

-Many scholars have just recently realised that scholars are facing threats to their lives and their liberty. These serious human rights violations hinder research and research collaboration, something that is at the core of Hanken’s strategy. The SAR-network is an important part of the work of international academia to protect academic freedom, says Nikodemus Solitander, Director of the Centre of Corporate Responsibility.
