Hanken joins collaboration to accelerate the sustainability transition
Finnish Academy of Science and Letters has compiled a statement that has been signed by universities, foundations and other science funding agencies. The signatories aim to create a community that conducts and supports research at the forefront of the sustainability transition.
Among other things, the signatory organisations aim to develop management practices that support sustainability competence, and to find common ways to monitor and evaluate the impact of research and teaching on nature.
The aim of the co-operation is to improve on previous commitments, such as the universities' efforts to become carbon neutral by 2030.
‘To improve operational activities, we should focus on reducing emissions from travel and promoting sustainable travel options, optimising energy efficiency and space use in buildings, as well as systematically assessing the environmental impact of procurement and increasing joint procurement. At the same time, we need to ensure that investment activities are responsible and sustainable, as they account for most of our climate footprint’, says Riina Haavisto, Social Responsibility Coordinator at Hanken.
Universities, foundations and other scientific actors need to strengthen and increase co-operation among themselves, and take concrete steps to ensure that their activities are based on a sustainable foundation, both now and in the future. Read more about the co-operation here.
