The Study Plan 2025-2027

The current study plans will change as of August 1, 2025, and the new study plans will be valid for the academic years 2025-2026 and 2026-2027.

To complete next year's teaching, you must either update entire study modules in your study plan or individual courses within the modules to the 2025-2027 version. What you need to update depends on your already completed studies, your choice of major, and your own preferences. Read the instructions below carefully.

Study modules, sections and courses – what's what?

The instructions below contain a lot of Sisu terminology. Here is a brief summary in case you are unsure what the text refers to.

Sisu's study plans consist of study modules (or just “modules”) – umbrella groups that contain several courses or sections of courses. A study module is, for example, your major and minor subject, language studies and the semester abroad. You can recognize a study module in Sisu by its blue code (e.g., 00180H) and it can be "collapsed" to hide all courses (or sections of courses!) inside it.

In Sisu, there are several versions of each course: a new version is created every two years, so they have, for example, the years (2023-2025) or (2025-2027). By clicking on the course code, you can see which version of the course you have in your study plan.

An equivalence is an old course that corresponds to a new course, i.e., they often have similar content. If you have completed a course that corresponds to another course, you cannot complete the new course, but should instead inform Sisu that you have already completed the equivalent of the new course.

 

General examples

Mandatory basic courses in Economic Sciences (bachelor’s students)

There is a new addition to the basic courses from August 2025 onward; 1155 Global Economy and Politics. Due to this addition, it is not recommended for students to update the version of the basic course module.

  • If you have completed all the basic courses, do not change the version of the module.
  • If you have a few basic courses left, you only need to update the version of the remaining course(s), not the version of the entire module.
  • If you have not completed any basic courses, or only a few basic courses, and want to take the new basic course 1155 Global Economy and Politics, update the version of the study module to 2025-2027.
Major subject (bachelor's & master's students)
  • If you only have the thesis and/or seminar course left in your major, you should update the version of the thesis and/or seminar course to 2025-2027.
    • Do not change the module of the entire major to 2025-2027.
  • If you have not yet completed any courses in your major, you should update the module of the major subject to 2025-2027, as this will update all courses within it to the correct version as well.
    • In some exceptional cases, the study module may have been extended to cover multiple versions. If Sisu shows that your module includes both the current version and the upcoming version 2025-2027, you cannot update the module. In that case, you must manually update all courses within the module individually.
  • If you have completed some courses but also want to take one of Hanken's brand new courses for 2025-2027, you should change the study module’s version to 2025-2027.
    • If you switch the module’s version to 2025-2027 and you have completed a course that is no longer in the new version:
      • First, see if the missing course is listed as an equivalent to any of the module’s new courses.
      • If the course is not listed as an equivalent, you must use the free editing mode to insert the course. Please see instructions for the free edit mode on the page Study plan, under the heading "Deviating content in the study plan".
    • If you have completed a course with a code ending in -E or -V, you should select the completed course via the equivalence function after changing the module's version.
      • Example: You have completed Strategic Thinking 22025-E, and the major module 2025-2027 includes Strategic Thinking 22025 (without E). Then select 22025-E as an equivalent for 22025.
  • If you have a mandatory course left to complete, that is being discontinued after this academic year, you must update your major’s study module version to 2025-2027. See the examples above for already completed courses.
  • If you do not update a module’s version to 2025-2027, you must instead update the version of the courses. Update the version to 2025-2027 for all courses you plan to take in the academic year 2025 and onwards.
    • If you still need to complete a course that previously had an -E or -V code, you should first select the new course code via equivalences and then update the version of that course to the 2025-2027 version.
Minor subject
  • Approach the changes in your minor in the same way as your major, according to the points above.
  • Changes have been made to the courses offered in some minor subjects. If you have not completed all courses in your minor, you may need to update the study module of the minor to the 2025-2027 version.
  • If you do not update the study module’s version to 2025-2027, you must instead update the version of all courses you intend to take during the academic year 2025-2026 and onwards.
  • If you still need to complete a course that previously had an -E or -V code, you should first select the new course code via equivalences and then update the version of that course to 2025-2027.
Finnish Business and Society or Semester Abroad (bachelor's students)

Depending on which study module you have in your plan, follow one of the instructions below:

Semester abroad:
  • If you have not completed the semester abroad, update the module’s version to 2025-2027.
  • If you have completed the semester abroad, do not update the module’s version.
Finnish Business and Society module:
  • Update the module to version to 2025-2027.
Studies in Languages and Business Communication (bachelor's students)
  • Do not change the language section of your study plan to the 2025-2027 version. Extensive changes have been made to the structure of this section which only concern students who start their studies 1.8.2025 onward. Updating the version would result in you having to fulfil unnecessary criteria that are not applicable to you.
  • If you have not yet completed your studies in Finnish and/or Swedish, you must use the free editing mode to add the new language course(s) and remove the old one(s). Please see instructions for the free edit mode on the page Study plan, under the heading "Deviating content in the study plan".
Studies in Languages and Business Communication (master's students)
  • You do not need to change the version of this module. It does not have a defined structure at it consists of individual courses.
  • If you have added courses to this module that you intend to take during academic year 2025-2026 or later, make sure to update their version to 2025-2027.
Optional Studies
  • You do not need to change the version of this module. It does not have a defined structure at it consists of individual courses.
  • If you have added courses to this module that you intend to take during academic year 2025-2026 or later, make sure to update their version to 2025-2027.

Acquaint yourself with the subject/program specific changes before making any changes in Sisu. You can use the tables below as a guide.

Changing the version of a study module to 2025-2027

If you need/want to update an entire study module to the 2025-2027 version, please follow these instructions.

1. In your study plan, click on the study module code.


 
2. Click on the drop-down menu and select 2025-2027 in the pop-up window.


 
3. A blue banner appears. click on "Use this version".


 
4. You can then decide whether you want to change the version by creating a new study plan as a copy where the study module is updated to 2025-2027, or change the version directly in the study plan you now have.

Option A “Copy plan and change degree programme/study module”


 
In this option you have your previous study plan untouched and have created a copy of the study plan where this specific study module is updated to the 2025-2027 version. The rest of the content in the study plan is untouched. If you want to use the copying function it is recommended to do it only once, and then do the rest of the updates without copying to avoid having too many study plans.

NOTE! If you create a copy of your study plan you must remember to set the copy as your primary plan to be able to register for teaching in the future.
 

Option B “Change degree programme/study module”

 
In this option you change the study module to the 2025-2027 version directly in the same study plan you have now. The selections you've previously made in this module will disappear with the change as it resets to the new version.

5. After updating the version of the study module, you can add courses to it. They will then automatically be in the 2025-2027 version and require no further updating.

Add completed courses to a module which has been updated to the 2025-2027 version

If your completed course has the same course code in the new version of the study module, it will show automatically. If the course is optional in the module, you must remember to add it to the study plan from the menu on the right-hand side.

If your completed course has a -V or -E code, and the module currently contains the same code without the ending, you can select the completed course via the equivalence function.

1. First, select the course to your study plan, then, click on the course code.

2. In the pop-up window, go to the Substitutions tab, and select the course you have completed as an equivalence.

If your completed course was earlier found in the study module but isn't included in the new version of the module, nor can be found via equivalences, you must add it to the study plan via the free edit mode. See instructions for the free edit mode on the page Study plan, under the heading "Deviating content in the study plan".

If you keep a module in an earlier version

If you choose to keep a study module in the 2023-2025 or earlier version, you must make sure to update each of the courses you still want to complete to the 2025-2027 version. Please note that some courses may no longer be offered so you may need to remove them from your study plan and potentially choose other ones instead.

Change the course version to 2025-2027 in a study module which is in an earlier version

1. First select the course to your study plan, then click on the blue course code.
 

2. Click on the drop-down menu and select 2025-2027 in the pop-up window.

3. A blue banner appears, click on "Switch to this version".


 
4. You can now close the window; the selection is automatically saved.

A course which is not yet completed with a code ending in -V or -E

If you have a course which you haven’t yet completed, with a code that ends in –V or –E, you must first switch this course to the campus neutral code without ending to be able to change to the version 2025-2027.

NB! There are some –E codes still in use for master's thesis courses. These can be directly updated to the 2025-2027 version.

1. First select the course to your study plan, then click on the blue course code.
