Man Yang

Man Yang, D.Sc. (Econ.), joined Hanken School of Economics as an Assistant Professor (tenure track) in Management and Organisation in August 2019. She was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in February 2024. Man has been serving as a member of the DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) Committee since 2023 and a member of the University Collegium since 2024.

Her teaching includes advanced level courses Managing Sustainable Business Development (5 ECTS), Research Seminar in Management and Organisation (5 ECTS), basic intermediate level courses International Business (6 ECTS) and Sustainable Entrepreneurship (6 ECTS). She also teaches the MOOC Entrepreneurship for Sustainability and Wellbeing in an Era of Digitalisation. Man supervises doctoral research and master theses. She gives guest lectures in other educational institutions (university, high school) on international entrepreneurship, sustainable entrepreneurship, and circular economy.

Man's current research interests include collective actions tackling grand challenges, sustainable entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial ecosystems (Principal Investigator of the Research Council of Finland 2020-2023 postdoctoral research project, 267 340 EUR), community-based entrepreneurship, female entrepreneurship, and international entrepreneurship. Her doctoral research at the University of Vaasa (2013-2017) studied decision-making and entrepreneurial marketing in international business.

Her work has been published in leading journals, such as Asia Pacific Journal of Management, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Industrial Marketing Management, International Business Review, International Marketing Review, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of International Marketing, Long Range Planning, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal. The study on entrepreneurial marketing of international high-tech business-to-business new ventures won the 2025 Gerald E. Hills Best Paper Award. The study on causation and effectuation in the process of venture creation is one of the 10 top-cited articles published in the Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal 2022-2023. 

Man has published book chapters on the ecosystem approach to responsibility, developing sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystems, among others. She also communicates her research in outlets intended for the public, such as Good News from Finland and Vaasa Insider.

She was an academic visitor at the University of Oxford in June 2025 and a visiting research fellow at Copenhagen Business School in August-December 2022. During her academic career, she made short-term research visits to Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Nanjing University, Sun Yat-Sen University in China, Leuphana University of Lüneburg in Germany, Stockholm School of Economics, the University of Southern Denmark (Odense), and the University of Groningen (Campus Fryslân) in the Netherlands.

Man has several years of industrial experience in the global shipping industry. She worked for the energy solution provider WE Tech Solutions in marketing communications (part-time, 2013-2017).
