Audit and advisory firm BDO is the latest company to join Hanken’s Partner Programme. “We want Hanken students to see BDO as an attractive future workplace,” says Talent Acquisition Coordinator Ansa Valmu.

BDO provides audit, tax and advisory services to companies, the public sector, and foundations and associations. The company is part of BDO Global and has 15 offices in Finland with over 400 employees. BDO operates in 169 countries and has 94 900 employees globally.

“We are growing continuously. I’ve worked at BDO for six years myself, and during that time our staff numbers in Finland have doubled,” Valmu says.

She explains that through the partnership with Hanken, BDO aims to strengthen the company’s visibility among students, particularly in relation to its trainee programme. Over 50 people can secure a place in the programme, and many go on to become permanently employed through it.

“We want to improve the image of the audit sector and show the types of roles and career paths available not only within auditing but also within our other business areas.”

Valmu emphasises that BDO is a flexible company with a low hierarchy.

“Our aim is for employees to be able to develop in the direction they wish. The work is varied and responsibility is given early on – even during the trainee period – in line with each person’s level of competence.”

For BDO, the language aspect also plays an important role in the collaboration with Hanken.

“We have many Swedish-speaking clients so being able to speak Swedish is an advantage. That’s another reason why Hanken students are important to us.”

Valmu says BDO chose to join Hanken’s Partner Programme because it is a high-quality university.

“I’ve actually wondered why we weren’t already collaborating. Hanken has an excellent reputation and many students within our field, so it makes perfect sense to work together. We already have many Hanken students and alumni at BDO, and our experiences with them have been very positive, so we want to strengthen that cooperation even further.”
