Anders Wall scholarship to Hanken entrepreneur for app that improves travel experiences

Sveriges kung Carl Gustaf gratulerar stipendiat Sebastian Mellblom
Hanken student Sebastian Mellblom has been awarded the €20,000 Anders Wall Scholarship, which was presented at the Anders Wall Foundation's scholarship ceremony in Stockholm on 8 March in the presence of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia.

Sebastian has started the company Reveel, which offers a digital platform for destinations and attractions. Since Sebastian loves travelling, languages and culture, he wanted to do something to simplify and improve people's travel experiences.

Reveel's app eliminates the need for paper maps and disposable earphones at tourist attractions. Instead, the information is available on the visitor's own mobile phone and in their own language. Reveel cooperates with the City of Helsinki's tourist information centre, among others, and the company has received €650,000 in investment.

"The app makes things easier for tourists, but also for the individual destinations that do not need to spend resources on printing maps or developing their own technical solutions. They can focus on what they do best, which is the content itself," explains Sebastian.

His entrepreneurial instincts were evident early on when, at the age of nine, Sebastian made drawings for his parents in exchange for sweets, a business idea he realised he could scale up by using the photocopier and selling the same drawing to his grandparents.

"They were just as happy," he says. "I was fascinated by the idea that I could actually make people's day a little better and that is still the driving force of my entrepreneurship.

This passion brought Sebastian to Hanken and studies in entrepreneurship. At Hanken, he was elected as a board member of the Hanken Entrepreneurship Society with marketing as his main responsibility. Sebastian has run the staffing company Catermate and founded the company PromoCore for promotional clothing for committees and organisations, which gave him useful experience in the start-up of Reveel.

What does the Anders Wall Scholarship mean to you?

"It is a huge honour that the Anders Wall Foundation believes in me. I am extremely excited to be part of the Wallumni network. Sometimes it is lonely being an entrepreneur and it is important to talk to others who have been through the same journey. And, of course, I am happy to share my experiences.

The annual Anders Wall Scholarship is awarded to ten talents, one of which is a Hanken student who has excelled in entrepreneurship and creative thinking.
