Blockchains and the Future of Business
Registration will close on January 11th at 16.00.
“I Expect That Within the Next 10 Years, Probably Half of the Banks Will be Gone”Blockchains apply cryptography and information technology to age-old problems of financial record-keeping. They are likely to trigger far reaching changes in how corporations are managed and governed globally. David Yermack, Professor of Finance and Business Transformation at the world-renowned New York University, has studied the potential implications of these changes for managers, institutional investors, small shareholders, auditors, and other parties in depth and talked about his findings to audiences around the world. He claims that the lower cost, greater liquidity, more accurate record-keeping, and transparency of ownership offered by blockchains is likely to significantly upend the way business is conducted everywhere.Yermack’s presentation will be followed by a panel discussion focusing on the effects of the new technology on Finnish business, in particular in banking and finance. The panel will consist of some of the leading experts in Finland on ongoing blockchain related projects: Henrik Husman (President, Nasdaq Helsinki), Ville Sointu (Head of DLT & Blockchain, Nordea) and Pål Krogdahl (CTO & Client Technical Leader, IBM).
