Hanken confirms its position as international top business school

On 19 November, AACSB International has announced that Hanken School of Economics has earned accreditation in business. AACSB (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) is the longest serving global accreditation body for business schools and its business accreditation represents the highest achievement for a business school.

The AACSB accreditation is regarded as a hallmark of excellence in business education, and has been earned by only five percent of the world’s business schools offering degree studies in business and economics. Hanken is the third Finnish business school to be accredited by AACSB.

Five years of collaboration

- Achieving this accreditation is the result of over five years of work, during which Hanken has exposed itself for rigorous scrutiny by both internal and external parties. During the process we have clarified our strategy, assessed and developed all our courses, and set ambitious targets for our faculty management, says Rector Karen Spens.

Rector Spens emphasises that each accreditation process needs commitment both inside and outside Hanken:

- A big thank you goes to my predecessors, Rectors Marianne Stenius and Eva Liljeblom, for being the driving forces behind this process. I also want to express my gratitude to Hanken’s faculty and staff, students, alumni, and other stakeholders for their engagement. Without these persons we would not be where we are today.

AACSB International commends Hanken for this achievement:

- We congratulate Hanken and Rector Karen Spens on earning the accreditation, which requires a great deal of self-evaluation and determination to achieve. Each AACSB accredited business school also commits to on-going improvement, says Robert D. Reid, executive vice president and chief accreditation officer at AACSB International.

Hanken now a Triple Crowne business school

With this accreditation, Hanken joins the exclusive group of business schools that have earned all the three most prestigious international accreditations, i.e. AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS. Only some 75, i.e. under one percent, of the world’s business schools belong to this group.

- For Hanken this means that we have confirmed our position as one of the leading business schools in Finland and internationally. International accreditations guarantee that we maintain high quality in both research, education, and our relation to the surrounding society, says a happy Rector Spens.
