Nari Lee appointed Professor in Intellectual Property Law

Nari Lee has been appointed Professor in Intellectual Property Law at the Department of Accounting and Commercial Law at Hanken School of Economics, Vaasa, from 1 January 2015.

Nari Lee has studied law at Ewha Womans University in Korea and at Kyushu University, Japan (LL.M), and holds a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Eastern Finland, and a Doctor of Laws (LL.D) degree from Kyushu University in Japan.

Since 1996, Lee has researched and taught in the area of intellectual property and international trade at several universities in Europe and in Asia. Before joining Hanken as an assistant professor in intellectual property law in 2012, she worked for the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition in Munich, as a senior researcher and programme director for Munich Intellectual Property Law Centre.

“Intellectual property law socially constructs a system of exclusive rights on innovation and creative knowledge. Research on intellectual property ideally should approach it from both legal and business perspectives, as the challenges are both normative and economic. Moreover, in today’s global economy legal research cannot take place only within a national boundary. International norm interactions are matters of fact”, says professor Lee.

“As Hanken encourages an international and cross disciplinary approach, it is an ideal academic home for intellectual property law education and research”, she continues.
