Workshop 3 - Drama at the Care Home - bringing ethnography tales to the stage

Based on an ethnographic field study in a care home for older adults, key findings were transformed to the ethnodrama ‘Everyday Lived Experience at the Elder Care’. In extensive collaboration with participants, actors and nonprofit-, private- and public organizations, the drama was performed in multiple locations to different audiences (older adults and relatives, care home managers and personnel, policy makers and students in health-and social care) with discussions of its implications after each performance. 

Against this background, this workshop focuses on older adults’ everyday lived experience in care homes and how the use of creative methodologies such as ethnodrama can assist in representing and communicating voice(s) to have an impact.”

Speaker:

Catharina von Koskull, D.Sc. (Econ.) is an Associate Professor at the School of Marketing and Communication and the multidisciplinary Digital Economy Platform, at the University of Vaasa, Finland. Catharina’s research background lies within service marketing and management and particularly service innovation. More recently, her work has moved towards Transformative Consumer and Service research where she focuses on wellbeing issues (e.g. agency, privacy and dignity) related to ageing, digital technology and care. Catharina is an expert in traditional ethnography and is passionate about inclusive, participatory research and outreach methods such as Art-based research and ethnodrama.

To this end, her projects has been successfully awarded competitive grants from the Finnish Cultural Foundation, the Swedish Cultural Foundation and the Swedish Fulbright Commission. She is affiliated to The Cornell Institute for Healthy Futures at Cornell University, and to the Service Research Center at Karlstad, Sweden.
