Gender in male-dominated fields – Unwrapping and changing our gendered realities

Gender in male-dominated fields
Welcome to the Gender in male-dominated fields – Unwrapping and changing our gendered realities workshop!

Time: 12:30 - 14:00
Place: Online

In this workshop we examine how gender issues pertain in contemporary workplaces, with a focus on male-dominated settings.

In Finland, in particular, there is often a tendency toward the equality-already-achieved rhetoric. Yet, our job markets are segregated. The information technology (IT) sector is one such example, where women are a minority, who typically occupy positions outside the core technical roles. Similar patterns can be evinced worldwide.

This workshop suggests that the gender issue needs to stay on the agenda. Our aim is to :

1) Unwrap the forms of gendering in male-dominated fields, and

2) to envision practical solutions by which individuals and organisations, alike, can foster a more equitable workplace.
