Hanken leaves the Tritonia collaboration

Hanken School of Economics’ library services in Vaasa will move from the Tritonia library to the City Library starting from 1.1.2020. With the move, all library services will be offered a stone's throw away from Hanken.

Hanken's course books will be available for lending in the City Library's premises on Kirjastonkatu 13 from the beginning of next year. The range of services for students is greatly improved after the move, as teaching and guidance services in information search and academic skills will be offered in the Hanken building, and thus can be further integrated into teaching.

In the future, the library services in Vaasa will be more integrated with Hanken's overall library service, which responds to the challenges the future brings.

- The change is part of our preparation for upcoming digital solutions. Teaching material is becoming increasingly available electronically and this development is rapid in the economic sciences, says Tua Hindersson-Söderholm, library manager at Hanken.

Rector Karen Spens highlighted in her speech in Vaasa 3.9.2019, that after a long deliberation at the latest board meeting, Hanken's board decided to move the service to Vaasa City Library.

- This is not a language policy issue, but out of the available alternatives, a new collaboration with the Vaasa City Library was considered to offer the best services for Hanken's students and staff. It’s both cost-effective and offers opportunities for integration of the services with Helsinki, says Spens.

In spring 2020, new workspaces for reading and groupwork will also be created in Hanken's main building in Vaasa. The change in the library system originates in the fact that Vaasan ammattikorkeakoulu terminated its agreement with the Tritonia library. Vaasa University bought the Tritonia property and intends to relocate the library.
