Klaus Ilmonen new Professor of Practice at Hanken

Doctor of Law Klaus Ilmonen has been appointed Professor of Practice at Hanken from April 2019. Ilmonen is specialised in company law and corporate governance.

Klaus Ilmonen has a doctoral degree in EU company law and corporate governance from University of Helsinki. He is particularly interested in comparative corporate governance and during the spring 2019 he will teach this subject at Hanken.

Ilmonen is Partner at the law firm Hannes Snellman, and his practice includes equity capital markets and other corporate transactions involving public corporations.

Minna Martikainen, professor in Accounting, says that Ilmonen has exactly the expertise that Hanken needs.

“Klaus Ilmonen’s expertise in corporate governance, his experience in business law and his interest in teaching is exactly what we need at Hanken for the future”, says Martikainen.

As Professor of Practice Klaus Ilmonen thinks it is important to contribute in building strong bonds between teaching, academic research and business.

“It is important that new phenomena in business law are analysed and that the academic research is focused on phenomena that characterize our time. Being close to business also contributes to teaching. My plan is to present law as a tool for corporate management and for transactions with practical corporate law examples, says Ilmonen.

Ilmonen thinks it will be interesting to work as Professor of Practice at Hanken.

“I have been following Hanken’s work in corporate governance for a long time, and in my view the engagement especially in Nordic corporate governance has been of high quality. I want to promote and take this work further both nationally and internationally", says Ilmonen.

A Professor of Practice is appointed for three years, with a possible extension of two years.
