The Academy of Finland funds Hanken research

Professor Nari Lee and Dr Maria Ehrnström-Fuentes have been granted extensive funding from the Academy of Finland for their respective research projects.

Nari Lee’s Academy Project Fairness, Morality and Equality in international and European Intellectual Property Law (FAME-IP) received funding to the amount of appr. 460 000 euros for the period 1.09.2018 - 31.08.2022.

FAME-IP is a project exploring the emerging concept of fairness, morality and equality at the interface of international and European intellectual property (IP) law, with particular regard to new business opportunities created by disruptive innovation.

New business models emerge using articial intelligence (AI), streaming contents, cloud data retrievals, signals trading, hyperlinking, as well as 3D printing. For policy makers and regulators, they call for balance in protection and promotion of fair competition.

The research project aims to critically assess how values such as fairness, morality and equality are reflected in legal principles and doctrines in the global regulations of business practices in general, through the lens of IP law in particular.

Maria Ehrnström-Fuente’s research project Organising from the grassroots - territorial movements and their role in building sustainable futures received Academy of Finland-funding, appr. 280 000 euros for the period 1.09.2018 - 31.08.2021.

This research project will explore the motivational factors, organising practices and power configurations of movements that emerge in a particular place in response to local and global environmental threats and challenges.

The concept of territorial movements is introduced as a distinct form of social movements where territory plays an important part of the organising practices of the movement. Based on four case studies in Chile and Finland, the research explores how these organising practices can contribute to systemic environmental change and provide sustainable solutions in the future.

Maria Ehrnström-Fuentes is post doc researcher at the department for Management and Organisation. She received her Ph.D from Hanken in 2016. Her thesis had the title:  Legitimacy in the Pluriverse. Towards an expanded view on corporate-community relations in the global forestry industry.
