Please read this information on current matters regarding the start of the Academic Year 2019-2020 carefully!
REGISTRATION FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR BY 2 SEPTEMBER 2019
Please remember to register as present or absent for the Academic Year 2019-2020 in WebOodi at the latest 2 September 2019.
A first-year student may register as absent for the first academic year for the following reasons only: military service (including Non-Military Service or Women's Voluntary Military Service); maternity, paternity or parental leave; or if you cannot begin your studies due to being incapacitated by personal illness or injury.
Please note that you need to be registered as present during an exchange semester and to be able to apply for your degree certificate.
When you have paid the student union membership fee, you can get the yearly sticker for your student ID card in Skogen, located in the basement of the main building in Helsinki. Opening hours in the beginning of the autumn: Monday–Thursday 10–15. Contact details: gensek(a)shs.fi.
In Vaasa the stickers are available at the Office of Study Affairs. Opening hours: Mon-Fri 10-14.
The course registration generally ends on Sunday one week before the beginning of the teaching period (the course registration deadline for P1 is however 1 September) Please remember to plan your studies and register for courses well in advance.
COURSES START 2 SEPTEMBER
Teaching period 1 starts on 2 September.
”Inskriptionen”, the solemn opening of the Academic year, will take place on 2 September at 1 p.m. in Vaasa and on 3 September at 1 p.m. in Helsinki.

PLAN YOUR MASTER’S STUDIES
- in Helsinki 3 September 8.30-10, room 411
Drop-in session for students who wish to check their choice of courses for the upcoming academic year with a study counsellor. Please bring your own laptop. No registration required. The session is in English and is for both new and “old” master’s level students.
- Students in Vaasa can visit the Study Counsellor.
When you have completed all your courses, please apply for your degree certificate. The degree will not be issued automatically.
PROBLEMS WITH YOUR USER-ID TO WEBOODI AND E-MAIL?
Service for changing your password: You can change your password, or reset a forgotten password, through the Self-service portal.
If you have forgotten your password, you can create a new one after identifying yourself with Finnish bank codes. NOTE that you need to have your Finnish social security number in the student database Oodi, for the bank code identification to work!

In case you have problems with your user-id and password, please visit our IT Support at the Student Helpdesk in Helsinki or the Computer Centre in Vaasa.
