REGISTRATION FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR BY 31st OF AUGUST 2018
Please remember to register as present or absent for the Academic Year 2018-2019 in WebOodi at the latest 31 August 2018.
A first-year student may however register as absent for the first academic year for the following reasons only: military service (including Non-Military Service or Women's Voluntary Military Service); maternity, paternity or parental leave; or if you cannot begin your studies due to being incapacitated by personal illness or injury.
Please note that you need to be registered as present during an exchange semester and to be able to apply for your degree.
When you have paid the student union membership fee, you can get the yearly sticker for your student ID card in Skogen, located in the basement of the main building in Helsinki. Opening hours: Monday to Thursday 11–13. Contact details: kansli(a)shs.fi.
In Vaasa the stickers are available from the Office of Study Affairs.
DEADLINES FOR COURSE REGISTRATION
The course registration generally ends on Sunday one week before the beginning of the teaching period (however, course registration for P1 end on Sunday 2 September). Please remember to plan your study and register for courses well in advance.
COURSES START 3 SEPTEMBER
Some language courses start 27 August but most courses start the following week.
”Inskriptionen”, the solemn opening of the Academic year, will take place on 3 September at 1 p.m. in Helsinki and on 4 September at 1 p.m. in Vaasa.

NEW STUDY PLANS THIS ACADEMIC YEAR
Hanken’s new study plans have now been published. Changes have been made to both the BSc and MSc studies, but most structural changes have been made within the MSc level. The reason to why these changes have been made is to make it easier for students to know which courses they absolutely have to take and to ensure that students are able to complete their studies within the recommended time frame of 2 years. PLAN YOUR STUDIES – NEW STUDY PLANS AND DEGREE STRUCTUREdy Information sessions for second year (and older) master’s level students, focusing on the new study plans and which courses you should take for those caught in between the old and the new study plans. Bring your own laptop!
Helsinki: 4 September at 12.30-14.00 in room 411 and 6 September at 10.30-12.00 in aud Futurum.
Vaasa: 5 September at 10.00 and 15.00 in room 307.
LANGUAGE STUDIES IN THE MASTER’S DEGREE
The language requirements have changed from 6 credits to 5 credits of language studies in the master’s degree.
The Academic Writing course 6 credits has in Helsinki been split into two courses: 51003 Academic Writing: apprentice level 2 credits and 51004 Mastering Academic Writing 3 credits.
In Vaasa the course 5160(-V) Academic Writing is now 5 credits.
APPLY FOR YOUR DEGREE CERTIFICATE WHEN YOU HAVE COMPLETED ALL YOUR STUDIES
When you have completed all your courses, please apply for your degree certificate. The degree will not be issued automatically! If you are planning to graduate on 22 October, you need to apply for your master’s degree certificate at the latest 27 September.
PROBLEMS WITH YOUR USER-ID TO WEBOODI AND E-MAIL?
New Service for changing your password: You can now change your password, or reset a forgotten password, through the Self-service portal.
If you have forgotten your password, you can create a new one after identifying yourself with Finnish bank codes. NOTE that you need to have your Finnish social security number in the student database Oodi, for the bank code identification to work!
