Take four steps. To choose a career is a process, not a separate choice

hanken-20.jpgCareer planning is the process of mapping out your own knowledge and competences, to identify possibilities that are offered and to make the most out of them in order to reach your goals. If you are wondering about

  • what kind of tasks you would like to work with in the future,
  • what options and opportunities you have,
  • your future career and the transition to working life,

career planning could be something worth looking into. At these pages, you will find exercises to help you out with your career planning. During the exercises, you will learn more about

  1. yourself
  2. the labour market, industries and working life
  3. making career choices and decisions

It is not always easy to shape your own future, but if you start with what is necessary and then continue with what is possible, you will soon see that you can reach for what you thought was impossible. To get you started Career Services has put together a set of career planning excercises for you. Good luck!

Person profile analyses to support your career planning

Career Services uses the Thomas System that makes it possible for you to understand, realize and develop your full potential in working life. As a student at Hanken, you can complete a Person Profile Analysis (PPA) at Career Services.

The Thomas System is the world’s most widely used person analysis tool. It is used in over 60 countries and is available in 56 languages. The Thomas System has been used for over 40 years by more than 40,000 companies. Every year, over a million analyses are done worldwide.

The analysis gives you an insight into how people act at work and answers questions such as – Which are their strong attributes and restrictions? Do they take initiative? How do they communicate? Which factors motivate them? The PPA helps you become more aware of your working style. By raising your self-awareness you will get the tools you need to consolidate your positive attributes and to compensate for your behavioural restrictions.

The Person Profile Analysis is a self-evaluation analysis where the analysed person defines words that best describe him/her. By mapping these choices scientifically, we gain insight into how someone will succeed in a position and in a workplace. We also get a perception of how this person reacts in his/her environment, the person’s current approach to work, motivational factors and possible future performances.
