The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is Mandatory

A GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) or GRE (Revised) General Test (Graduate Record Examination) test result is mandatory for all applicants when applying to the Hanken PhD Programme. GMAT and GRE are tests designed to measure the skills shown to help graduate business students succeed in the challenging curriculum. The tests assess verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing skills. GMAT and GRE tests are used widely by business schools in both Master's and PhD admissions.

On the GMAT and GRE web pages you can find alot of useful material and information on how to prepare for the test. it is worthwhile to study before you take the test, that way you can prepare yourself for how the tests are structured, what kind of questions are to be expected and how you should use the time given to you. On these web pages "Prepare candidates for the GMAT exam" you can find useful information. GMAC also offers a handbook which can be downloaded:

You can also find free tests on both web pages.

The indicative GMAT / converted GRE threshold set by the Academic Council at Hanken School of Economics, is 600. If an applicant with a lower score shows considerable evidence of his/her propensity to conduct doctoral studies and research he/she may be considered for admission. The tests consist of different parts, only some of them are included in the total score. But please note however that Hanken assesses all of these, also the writing assignments. These have separate scores which are shown, together with the essay part, on the official test results made available to Hanken directly from the test organisers.

The official test result is to be sent directly to Hanken from the test organiser. In order for you to request the organiser to send the result to Hanken it has to be valid (not older than five years). The test has to be taken and the request for the official result has to be made before the application deadline. In addition to this you may also enclose an unofficial test score report to your application.
