"What I like about the specialisation is its international character and the emphasis on a combination of legal and business courses, instead of solely focussing on the law itself. Another benefit of Hanken is that it is a relatively small school, but nonetheless one with good connections and an excellent faculty. The staff is easy to approach and small classes facilitate classroom wide discussions. All in all I am very happy to have chosen Hanken!"

"Before Hanken I graduated from law school and started working in the legal department of a large manufacturing company. The cases related to intellectual property attracted much of my professional interest there.

The selection of courses the programme offers allows you not only to know intellectual property law and how to manage intellectual property rights, but also to understand the economic factors of intellectual property. Among the advantages of studying at Hanken, I can point out the opportunity to participate in IPR university projects, and the possibility to learn from industry experts from Finland and around the world, as well as from fellow students."

"While searching for a school, I was looking for a Master's in Intellectual Property in a country where there are loads of start-ups, where business ethics are high, and where there is an interest for the Asian markets. Hence, my expectations regarded mainly the proximity of Hanken with the boiling start-up scene of Helsinki, which is largely relying on technological innovations.

Having studied at the school, I must say that I highly appreciate the academic freedom and the goals that were set for us by the teachers and programme directors. The teachers also took amazing care of us: as an example, most of the time, my emails were answered within a day or so, something you could never expect from a bigger institution."

Why did you choose Hanken IPL Programme

While I was studying at the Faculty of Law of the University of Helsinki, I became interested in enhancing my knowledge of Intellectual Property matters. Hanken's IP Programme provided me a great chance to get an international perspective on IP matters and a better understanding on their economic dimensions.

Tell us a bit about your experience at EUIPO's internship program?

I worked as a trainee at the European Union Intellectual Property Office in the Operations Department. I mainly examined European Union trademark applications and drafted decisions and notifications on the absolute grounds for refusal. All in all, I gained very valuable experience in decision taking at the EUIPO and met a lot of very talented IP specialists. I really enjoyed working in multicultural environment and would definitely recommend an internship with the EUIPO to anyone interested in trademarks.

What do you do now and what are your future plans?

Currently I am working as a trainee lawyer in one of the law firms in Alicante. My future plan is to continue working in the field of trademark and brand protection.
