Combining top-level sports and studies

Degree students that are top-level sportsmen have the possibility to join a sport academy. The sport academies are regional networks that support top-level sportsmen to combine studies, sports and everyday life. Hanken has a collaboration with the Metropolitan NOC elite sports academy URHEA in the Helsinki area and with Vasa sport academy. To be accepted into the sport academies students need to fill certain requirements and need to apply for membership. The sport academies make the decisions regarding criteria and admission. You can find more information (mainly in Finnish) on the organisations’ homepages:
Urhea (for students in Helsinki)
Vasa sport academy (for students in Vaasa).

Hanken’s involvement in these organisations means that study counsellors and teachers at Hanken may to a certain extent offer individual study arrangements for students who are members of these organisations. At a practical level this can mean e.g. flexible exam arrangements or in some cases individual solutions and timetables for completing courses in order to make it possible for top-level athletes to combine competition and training trips with their studies. These special arrangements need to be agreed upon before the courses start to ensure the collaboration is as smooth as possible.

If you are studying in Helsinki the contact person is Jennie Bertula studycounsellor-hki@hanken.fi. The contact person for students i Vaasa is Britt-Mari Siironen studycounsellor-vaasa@hanken.fi.
