Transferring Studies Completed in Finland

Information about how to transfer studies completed in Finland.

If you wish to transfer courses from a Finnish institution of higher education, Hanken usually transfers the course's credits and the equivalating grade to your transcript of records. Note that transfering grades is not automatic, and that not all courses can be transferred.

To your application you have to enclose:

  • an official, stamped, original transcript of records from the University/University of Applied Sciences where the course you want to transfer is visible
  • a copy of the course's description (can be copied from the other university's homepage)

If the course you have taken at another university in Finland is equivalent to a course at Hanken, the application for transferring credits is approved by the instructor of the course at Hanken that is equivalent to the course you have taken at the other university.

Visit the instructor during his/her office hours and hand in the  with an official transcript of records and a description of the course. When the instructor has approved your application, submit the application form and enclosures to the Student Helpdesk in Helsinki or Office of Study Affairs in Vaasa. The course will appear on your transcript as if you had completed the course at Hanken (the name of the course and course code).

If the course you have taken at another university in Finland is not equivalent to a course at Hanken but within a subject taught at Hanken the application for transferring credits is approved by the subject coordinator of that subject at Hanken or by a language teacher if it is a language taught at Hanken. Visit the subject coordinator or language teacher during his/her office hours and hand in the application form with an official transcript of records and a description of the course.

When the subject coordinator or language teacher has approved your application, submit the application form and enclosures to the Student Helpdesk in Helsinki or Office of Study Affairs in Vaasa. The course will be listed as a transferred course under the subject on your transcript.

If the course you have taken at another university or in a polytechnic in Finland is not equivalent to any course at Hanken and not within any subject taught at Hanken you can apply for transferring it as freely elective studies. Example: Chinese language, Psychology or Health Sciences.

Submit your application form with an official transcript of records and a description of the course to the Student Helpdesk in Helsinki or Office of Study Affairs in Vaasa. The decision will be made by the Office of Study Affairs.
