The presentation will cover three themes: information security, privacy, and the Internet of Things. During the evening you will learn about common threats like phishing, ransomware, and data breaches, as well as some steps you can take to keep your data safe. You will also be given real-world examples of phishing attacks to analyze and learn how to recognize such attacks.

The presentation will also briefly cover online privacy and tracking, with a focus on simple steps you can take to lessen data gathered about you when online. Finally, we will look at the explosive growth of the Internet of Things from a security perspective. Through real-world examples of IoT gone wrong, we will cover some of the primary concerns for IoT consumers as well as manufacturers.

Linus Nyman is an assistant professor at Hanken and teaches in IT-related topics.

His thesis about “code forking” within open source software was the first dissertation ever within the topic. A few years back he became fascinated by information security and has since then done research and lectured about this topic.

Linus has published academic articles with big names within the industry, such as Monty Widenius (founder of MySQL and MariaDB) and Mikko Hyppönen (Chief Research Officer at F-Secure).

Linus has also written about information security for Helsingin Sanomat and publishes a blog about the subject, “Unencrypted Opens in new window ”, in HBL.
