Costs and funding

Hanken has a comprehensive scholarhsip scheme in place for international students.

Tuition fees for non-EU/EEA students

As of 2017, non-EU/EEA students admitted to a Master's Degree Programme in English are required to pay tuition fees at all universities in Finland. There are certain exemptions:

The fees will not concern those non-EU/EEA students who

  • are family members of an EU/EEA citizen (spouse/child)
  • are already residing in Finland or some other EU country on a permanent basis (i.e. are equivalent to EU citizens, continuous (A) or permanent (P/P-EU) residence permit type)

For EU citizens all university education is free of charge. All students regardless of nationality are, however, obliged to pay an annual student union membership fee of approximately 120 euro.

Health insurance for non-EU/EEA students

All degree students at Hanken receive free basic health care through the Finnish Student Health Service, but students from outside the EU/EEA also need an health care insurance to cover emergencies and some specialist care. The Hanken Scholarship Scheme

We have a comprehensive scholarship system to support fee-paying students. Applying for a scholarship will not affect your application to the Master's Degree Programme. The scholarships at Hanken are merit-based.

Cost of living in Helsinki and Vaasa

Living in Finland is relatively expensive compared to an EU average. However, you need to take into account that the student unions in Finland have worked hard to ensure that:

- students receive free basic health care through the Finnish Student Health Service

- all public transportation is -50 % for students

- student lunch is served at all campuses at all universities, and one hot meal costs around 2-3 euros (state subsidized)

- affordable student housing is available in both Helsinki and Vaasa
