Since all new open access publishers are not reliable you should consider carefully before submitting your article. In general you should always check the following before you submit your article to an unfamiliar journal:
- Have well-known authors and/or organisations published in the journal?
- Who are in the editorial board?
- What is the quality of the journal's contact information?
- Are the licence terms reasonable?
You can use Beall’s List of predatory open access publishers and Grey zone OA publishing houses from Lund University for checking the publisher's reliability. You can read more about journal rating in Guide to review OA publishers by Pieta Eklund, University of Borås and on our web pages about bibliometrics.
