PhD Program in Finance with Specialization in Statistics

The Department of Finance and Statistics at the Hanken School of Economics offers you the opportunity to pursue PhD studies in Finance with a special emphasis on Statistics. If you are interested not only in applying various analytical, quantitative and estimation tools in econometrics and finance but also in developing new methods and challenging the status quo, then our programme could be just what you are looking for.

The Hanken PhD Programme has duration of four years and consists of course work (60 credits) and a thesis (180 credits) and consists of:

24 ECTS in Finance (4 core courses from Graduate School in Finance)
24 ECTS in Statistics
12 ECTS elective (to be approved by student's PhD advisor)

Apart from offering a range of advanced courses finance, statistics and econometrics, we work closely with several research centres in and beyond Helsinki to give you the chance to design a study programme that will meet your expectations and will be compatible with your interests.

Each PhD student at Hanken is required to prepare an individual study plan for the course work and submit a research proposal.

Admission requirements: The applicant has taken a sufficient amount of courses in Asset Pricing, Corporate Finance, Econometrics, Statistics, Probability and Mathematics. The applicant's Master's thesis is required to have been graded by a minimum grade of 'good' (on a scale excellent, very good, good, satisfactory, fair) or the equivalent,

or to meet a similar standard in the cases where a grade has not been given.
