Registration for the academic year
Degree students must register as either present or absent before the start of every academic year, otherwise they will be dropped from the study register.
Degree students must register as present in order to be able to take part in classes and examinations as well as to be able to graduate. In order to be able to study at another university through the JOO agreement, a student must be registered as present at their home university.
Students going abroad as exchange students to one of Hanken's partner universities must also register as present for the period of their exchange. Students going abroad as freemovers can choose if they want to register as present or as absent for the period of their stay abroad.
Students who are registered as absent do not have the right to take part in classes or examinations.
The right to use Hanken's computer systems will be withdrawn seven days after graduation.
Please note that you must be registered as present for at least the autumn semester if you wish to participate in an exam or sign up for a course after 1 August. Similarly, in order to be able to sit an exam or sign up for a course after 1 January, you must be registered as present for the spring semester.
You must register as present or absent for the academic year by 31 August,at 4.15 p.m., at the latest.
To register as present
The deadline for registration for the next academic year for Master's students is 31 August at 16.15. If 31 August falls on a weekend or on a holiday, the deadline for registration is the first weekday thereafter. The deadline for registration for the Spring Term is 15 January.
Student union fee and payment
The student union membership fee includes a health care fee, which entitles you to use the services of the Finnish Student Health Service.
The student union membership fee for the whole academic year 2013-2014 is 107 €. The fee for one semester is 53,50 €.
You can register as present through WebOodi if you have an Internet account with Danske Bank (Sampo), Aktia or Nordea.
If you do not pay the student union membership fee through WebOodi, the fee is to be paid to the Student Union to one of the following accounts:

The recipient is The Student Union of Hanken School of Economics. You must write your name (or the name of the person on whose behalf the fee has been paid) and which term the payment is for in the message field. The receipt must have an archive ID number. Please present the receipt at the ServicePoint in Helsinki or at the Office of study Affairs in Vaasa in order to obtain the yearly sticker for the student ID card. Please note that you are not registered as present before you have shown the receipt and we have registered you! When you have been registered as present you cannot change your status to being registered as absent.
Sticker
When you have paid the student union membership fee, you can get the yearly sticker in August for your student ID card at the Service Point in Helsinki or at the Office of Study Affairs in Vaasa. The sticker is only attached to your student union card and therefore will not be given to you without your student union card. If it is not possible for you to obtain your sticker personally you can send your student union card by mail to the Office of Study Affairs (P.O. Box 479, 00101 Helsinki or P.O. Box 287, 65101 Vaasa) and we will send you your card with the sticker to your adress in Oodi.
You must always show your student ID card with the yearly sticker when taking part in examinations and when needing a certificate of any kind.

Membership in two Student unions
If you study for a Master's degree at two different universities in Finland, you should pay the student union fee (including the health services fee) of both of the student unions. After the payments, you can apply for a refund of the health services fee from one of the student unions. Please contact the Secretary General at the student union of Hanken for more information about this, gensek(at)hanken.fi.
To register as absent
Please note, that when you are registered as absent you do not have the right to participate in examinations or take part in classes.
You must register as absent no later than 31 August for the autumn semester and no later than 15 January for the spring semester. If you are registered as absent and wish to participate in classes and examinations, you must first pay the student union membership fee and then register as present.
You can register as absent through WebOodi. If you do not have access to WebOodi, you can register as absent through the Service Point in Helsinki or the Office of Study Affairs in Vaasa. You can also send an email to studieinfo(at)hanken.fi in order to register as absent. Please write "Registration" in the subject field of your message.
Late registration - application for re-matriculation
Students not registered as either present or absent by the given date, will lose their right to study at Hanken. Students who wish to re-activate their student status and continue their studies need to apply for re-matriculation. The fee for applying for re-matriculation is 35 €.
Master's degree students apply for re-matriculation by submitting the application form for re-matriculation, a transcript of records and a receipt of the payment of the re-matriculation fee (35 €) to the ServicePoint in Helsinki or to the Office of Study Affairs in Vaasa.
In your application, you should state the reason why you wish to apply for re-matriculation. The student can be requested to submit additional information such as an approved study plan (ISP) or evidence of the student's potential to pursue studies.

Please note that the application form must be carefully filled-out and all of the required documents enclosed to the application for re-matriculation in order for us to be able to consider it. The decision will generally be made within 1-2 weeks.
When your application for re-matriculation has been considered, you will be informed by email or phone whether or not the application has been approved. If your application is approved, you should pay the student union fee and register as present at the ServicePoint in Helsinki or at the Office of Study Affairs in Vaasa.
Please note that the re-matriculation fee is to be paid to Hanken (Svenska handelshögskolan) and the student union fee to the Student Union (Svenska Handelshögskolans Studentkår).
