Mentorship programme
Want to have your own mentor?
A mentorship programme starts each academic year for students beginning their final stage of their studies. In Helsinki the mentorship programme has also been offered recently to graduated mentees from 2009. As mentors in the programme are Hanken alumni that have established themselves in the the labor market and have had a successful start at their career. The mentorship programme is currently only offered in Swedish.
Mentoring concept
Mentoring means that an older, experienced person (mentor) will share their professional experience and their knowledge to a younger, student/graduate (mentee). Specifically, the mentee may increase his or her knowledge and understanding of a particular industry, a particular company and a particular task and at the same time develop an understanding of how to effectively handle a job and what this can lead to both in the professional and private life.
What are the benefits?
- Your mentor gives you advice and shares knowledge, career guidance and inspiration
- You improve your career and study planning
- Your transition to working life will become easier, thanks to increased working knowledge
- You get valuable new contacts to the labor market, your network grows!
- You develop your interactive skills in interaction with your mentor
- You get more confidence and greater self-knowledge
- You increase your attractiveness on the labor market
- You can use the mentor as a guide when applying for jobs after graduation
- Etc.
The one who applies must:
- Be ambitious and want to develop both professionally and socially
- Be motivated and active - it is the mentee and the mentor that drive the project forward together!
- Be prepared to analyze your career goals and your career development with your mentor
- Be ready to receive feedback that gives you cause for reflection and action
- Be serious in your goals to implement the program throughout the whole next academic year!
Working method
The program runs for one academic year but the mentor and mentee can decide to continue the relationship after the program ends. During the program information and support for mentors and mentees will be provided at the three common evening occasions.
The mentor and the mentee meet once a month (approximately seven meetings during the academic year). Each pair form their individual practice to meet and work that suits them best. Foremost by sharing thoughts and opinions about work, education and future. The place of meetings is agreed upon by the participants themselves, the mentor's workplace or lunches is usually the most common way.
