Brief Description
Programme Focus
The Master's Degree Programme in International Management and Strategy focuses on the identification and management of challenges stemming from a diversity of economic, social, geographic, institutional, cultural and linguistic contexts. The programme prepares participants for careers in international organisations, business organisations in particular. The programme helps participants acquire the skills needed to function effectively in such organisations. The exchange period at a foreign university that forms an integrated part of the programme plays an important role in developing these skills.
The primary target group of the programme are individuals with a genuine interest in the international aspects of management, a high level of academic ambition, and a desire to work with issues related to international organisations in the future. International management is fundamentally about the identification and management of challenges stemming from a diversity of economic, social, geographic, institutional, cultural and linguistic contexts. This means that participants should be willing and capable to approach a wide range of subjects during their studies, working consciously throughout the programme to discern and understand linkages between these.
The programme is administered and implemented by the Department of Management and Organisation, a leading research institution in the areas of international management and strategy. Participants are thus guaranteed a Master's degree of high international quality.
A truly international programme
A strong international dimension permeates the programme throughout its duration. The exchange period at a foreign university during the second year, which is an integrated part of the programme, guarantees that all programme participants will graduate with fresh international experience.
Programme students are a part of the Hanken community
Programme participants have full access to activities at Hanken, including its active student life and various events and activities are arranged also within the programme itself. Particularly during the first weeks and months of the programme, time is dedicated to extracurricular activities that enable the participants to bond with each other, the programme faculty and the broader Hanken community.
Career Paths
The programme prepares participants for careers in international organisations, business organisations in particular. Upon completion of the programme, participants may go on to work as experts within large multinationals -for example within the areas of strategic development, human resource management, human resource development, marketing, or corporate communications -subsequently growing into management roles in these areas. They may also work as management consultants with different areas of specialisation, ranging from strategy to corporate social responsibility, or in a number of other fields where international organisations have a strong presence. Understanding international organisations and being able to function efficiently in them is a highly versatile competence in a competitive environment that is growing more global by the day.
