The Subject Management and Organisation
Management and Organisation
The subject of Management and Organization is the largest within the department. We have seven full-time and one part-time faculty position in Helsinki, one faculty position at the Vaasa campus, and several postdoctoral researchers financed with external funding. The subject has since the year 2000 been defined by the board as one of Hanken School of Economics' areas of strength.
Management and Organization has a strong research climate, reflected in the volume and range of research activities. Research carried out within the subject is characterized by diversity, covering, among others, issues within change management; diversity management; gender studies; human resource management; international management; organizational behaviour; and strategy. Scholars associated with the subject have published in leading journals, such as
Academy of Management Review; Gender, Work and Organization; Human Relations; International Business Review, Journal of Business Ethics; Journal of International Business Studies; Journal of Management Studies; Organization; Organization Science; Organization Studies; and
Strategic Management Journal. The scholars have also published many books with international publishers. There are collaborative links with other universities and business schools around the world and cooperation with a large number of corporations. There is a fortnightly
research seminar series as well as a number of research groups and projects.
Management and Organization was appointed by the Ministry of Education as one of Finland's Centres of Excellence in university level education for 2004-06 and was given a similar status for its
master's and
doctoral studies programmes for 2007-09. On average, approximately three persons graduate yearly with a doctorate in management and organisation. The
English-speaking master's programme in International Management has every year since its inception in 2007 attracted the largest number of applicants of all programmes offered by the business school; over half of the students are from abroad.
