Visiting Professor of Finance (alternatively Associate or Assistant Professor), Helsinki

The Department of Finance and Statisticsat Hanken School of Economics, Helsinki, Finlandinvites applications for a visiting Professor of Finance (alternatively Associate or Assistant Professor)

The visiting professor has moderate teaching responsibilities (1-2 courses per year), which can be tailored in accordance with the skills of the successful applicant. Start date for the position is September 1, 2013 or later. The contract period can vary from 6 months to 1 year, depending on the applicant's preferences.

As a visiting professor you will be responsible for:

  • Conducting research that meets high international levels, publishing your research in scholarly outlets and communicating the results of your work to the business community and society at large.
  • Contributing to the research efforts and the development of new research capabilities of the department. Contributing successfully to the competence development of students by providing research based teaching and supervision.
  • Contributing to the development of the teaching capabilities of the department.

The applicant must have earned his/her doctoral degree in financial economics. Specialization in either corporate finance or asset pricing is desired, and a strong research potential is required.

Assistant Professor in Finance in Helsinki 1.8.2013-31.7.2018

As Assistant Professor (Swedish universitetslektor) you will teach, conduct independent research and carry out administrative duties. The total working time per year is 1600 hours. As Assistant Professor (Swedish: forskardoktor) you will be responsible for:

  • Conducting research that meets high international levels, publishing your research in scholarly outlets and communicating the results of your work to the business community and society at large.
  • Contributing to the research efforts and the development of new research capabilities of the department.
  • Contributing successfully to the competence development of students by providing research-based teaching and supervision.
  • Contributing to the development of the teaching capabilities of the department.
  • Contributing to the administration of the department and the business school.

To fulfil the requirements for the position a person need to have completed a PhD degree during the past five years (the period is extended in case of maternity/paternity leave).

When assessing and comparing the qualifications of the applicants for the position research merits and potential are given precedence although teaching merits and interests are also relevant.

The successful applicant will be expected to have good knowledge of English. Knowledge of Swedish is considered a merit.

The most qualified applicants may be invited to give two test lectures, one about their own research (20 minutes) and one directed to students studying Finance (20 minutes). These will be organised at end of the spring term 2013 at Hanken. The language for the test lectures is English.

The position is placed in the preliminary requirement category 5-6 for teaching and research personnel. In addition, a performance-based bonus may be added. The salary is about 3.274 - 4.221 € / month depending upon merits.
