Humanitarian Logistics and Supply Chain Research Institute
The Humanitarian Logistics and Supply Chain Research Institute (HUMLOG Institute) is a focal point for researchers in humanitarian logistics. Its two founding universities are the Hanken School of Economics (Hanken) and the National Defence University of Finland (NDU).
Hanken and NDU are part of a larger international research network in humanitarian logistics, the HUMLOG Group. Hanken as the initiator of the HUMLOG Group, and NDU as one of its founding members have thus decided to establish a common research institute – the HUMLOG Institute – that serves as a platform and physical place for researchers in the field of humanitarian logistics to exchange ideas.
The HUMLOG Institute thus observes the common interests of Hanken and the NDU related to research and education in humanitarian logistics, as well as serves as the Secretariat of the HUMLOG Group. The aim of the group is “to research the area of humanitarian logistics in disaster preparedness, response and recovery with the intention of influencing future activities in a way that will provide measurable benefits to persons requiring assistance”.
