Programme Focus

Hanken School of Economics offers a comprehensive, two-year Master's Degree Programme in Financial Economics which is targeted for ambitious students planning careers in the financial industry, including risk management, sales and trading, asset management, corporate finance, and applied research. The programme also gives a solid basis for further academic studies.

The curriculum is designed to be completed in two years. The core curriculum in the first year will prepare students to follow a track of their choice and to write a masters' thesis during the second year.

Research Seminar in Finance

Master's Thesis

In addition to the compulsory courses, the programme includes elective studies comprising 28 credits, of which at least 6 should be language studies.

The Department of Finance at Hanken is one of the leading academic teaching and research units in finance in Finland. The department has a broad international scope in its research and education activities on two campuses; Helsinki and Vaasa. Our faculty is well connected to the finance community in Finland and abroad. The Department's research covers several key areas of finance such as asset pricing and financial econometrics, corporate finance and corporate governance, law and finance, risk management, market microstructure and real estate.
