Politics and Business

Politics and Business

The subject of Politics and Business can only be chosen as a minor subject by students. There is one faculty position in charge of the subject and teaching three of its four intermediate courses, and three external lecturers who are responsible for its two associated basic courses and its fourth intermediate course.

When it comes to research, the subject is complementary to Management and Organisation with which there are ongoing collaborative projects, including within some of the department's research groups (such as Strategy as Practice and the Gender Group). The subject is characterized by specific expertise when it comes to business and society relations, corporate social responsibility, the critical study of business discourses and their impacts (especially through a governmentality lens), and responsible management education. Works on these topics have been published in books from publishers such as Edward Elgar, Routledge and Sage, and in journals such as Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management, International Journal of Management Concepts and Philosophy, Journal of Multicultural Discourses, Journal of Organizational Change Management, Management et Avenir, Management Learning, and Scandinavian Journal of Management. The subject has collaborative links with scholars from a number of other universities and business schools and is responsible for a partnership on corporate responsibility issues between Hanken School of Economics and Audencia Nantes School of Management, France.

In line with the focus on responsible management education, three of the subject's courses can be taken as part of the Corporate Responsibility study module, which was set up when Hanken School of Economics adopted the United Nations PRME (Principles for Responsible Management Education).
