CERS Award for Excellence in Relationship Marketing and Management

CERS Award pyramidThe CERS Award for Excellence in Relationship Marketing and Management was established in 1999 in order to raise the awareness of relationship marketing and management issues in Finland. The CERS Award is given yearly to a company/ companies who have succeeded in a remarkable way in relationship marketing and management.

The CERS Award focuses on finding best practices of relationship management in Finnish companies. Participation in the contest gives the organizations the opportunity to review their learning process regarding the implementation of a successful Relationship Management Process. The applications are reviewed by an international jury consisting of experts from academia and business professionals.

The previous winners of CERS Award include Nordea Corporate Merchant Banking (2007), Diacor (2006), Kapiteeli Oyj (2004), Ålandsbanken (2003), Sodexho Oy and UPM-Kymmene Publication Papers (2001), Trading House Hansel (2000), and Fazer Bakeries (1999).
Best in Progress recognition has been received by Teosto (2007), Grey Direct Oy (2006), OP Bank Group (2005), Volvo Finland Ab (2004) and Nordea Private Banking and IIR Finland (2002).

What does the CERS Award offer?

  • CERS Award is a structured self-assessment process that helps the applicant company to identify strengths and weaknesses within its relationship management practices.
  • With the aid of an analysis tool and tutor provided by CERS the company receives the opportunity to critically review the relationship strategy in the company and get it documented.
  • The jury's motivations and suggestions for further improvement enable the company to develop the relationship strategies even further.
  • The receiver of the CERS Award gets positive publicity as a forerunner in relationship marketing and management.
  • The winner of the CERS Award is granted one year's CERS partnership free of charge.

CERS Award 2007

The winner of the CERS Award for Excellence in Relationship Marketing and Management 2007 was the corporate merchant banking division of Nordea Bank Plc in Finland.

The jury was of the opinion that the application of Nordea's corporate merchant banking division was strong, professional and credible, and that they have adopted a systematic and long-term approach towards administrating their customer relationships. The jury especially wanted to commend the clear personal tasks within the organization, including the role of top management.

A Best-in-Progress recognition was awarded to the rightholder branch of the Finnish Composers' Copyright Society Teosto as a as a sign of received results and as an encouragement for further progress.


CERS Award 2007 ceremony
The CERS Award 2007 ceremony was held at Hanken on November 21st. Keynote speakers for the occasion were Pekka Soini, director of Helsingin Sanomat, and Kaj Storbacka, founder of Vectia Ltd. and professor of Sales and Account Management at Nyenrode Business Universiteit.

CERS Award 2006

The CERS Award 2006 for for Excellence in Relationship Marketing and Management was givent to Diacor, while CERS Best-in-progress recognition went to Grey Direct Oy.

CERS Award 2006 Ceremony took place on November 22nd, at Hanken
Keynote Speakers at the ceremony were:
- Lynette Ryals, Professor of Strategic Sales and Account Management, Cranfield University, UK giving a presentation on Managing a Portfolio of Customer Relationships.
- Jarkko Pallasaho, Senior Executive, Accenture, with a presentation on Loyalty & Differentiated CustomerExperience
