Hanken's fundraising campaign exceeds its goals: 15.7 million Euros and 1200 donors
On June 30th 2011 Hanken's HANKEN 100 fundraising campaign has received donations to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund for just over 15.7 million Euros from 1244 donors. Hence Hanken's fundraising campaign has exceeded its financial goal of 10 million Euros by more than 50 %, and reached and engaged more than 1000 intended donors. Hanken Alumni Challenge II, which was launched in January 2011 and during which two anonymous donors matched other alumni donations Euro for Euro, also reached and exceeded its target of 150 000 Euros.
Rector Eva Liljeblom and campaign and Hanken chairman Björn Wahlroos extend the School's warmest thanks to all donors. "The HANKEN 100 fundraising campaign has created unique financial strength for Hanken, and forms a strong basis for our future as an internationally competitive business school", says rector Liljeblom. Björn Wahlroos adds that Hanken is indeed especially glad for the strong international support the school has received - around 25 % of the campaign's donations come from abroad. Wahlroos also emphasizes the role played by Hanken alumni in Hanken's fundraising. "90 % of our donors are alumni, and it is wonderful to see how Hanken's alumni have in such a decisive way continued to support their alma mater".
The HANKEN 100 fundraising campaign was launched in conjunction with Hanken's centenary celebration in 2009. The three-year-long campaign has aimed to raise 10 million Euros to be used for further strengthening Hanken's position as an international business school. Donations to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund made before 30.6.2011 will be matched by the government with 2.5 Euros for every donated Euro. The campaign continues until the end of 2011.

The HANKEN 100 fundraising campaign was launched in conjunction with Hanken's centenary celebration in 2009. The three-year-long campaign has aimed to raise 10 million Euros to be used for further strengthening Hanken's position as an international business school. To date, Hanken has received donations for nearly 14.7 million Euros to its Centenary Endowment Fund. Donations to the Fund made before 30.6.2011 are matched by the government with 2.5 Euros for every donated Euro.
Evli Bank Plc makes significant donation to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund
Evli Bank Plc has made a sizable donation to the HANKEN 100 fundraising campaign and Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund. "For years, Hanken has been one of Finland's leading educators in the fields of economics and finance. With this donation we want to further the continuation and development of Hanken's internationally high-class education in the future. For Evli, as a Finnish investment and wealth management bank, this is very important", says CEO Maunu Lehtimäki. Evli Bank Plc was established in 1985 and currently has offices in Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Lithuania and Russia. The bank has some
EUR 5.2 billion net in assets under management. The group employs approximately 280 people, and reported a turnover of nearly EUR 60 million in 2010.
Riitta and Berndt Brunow donate 100 000 Euros to the HANKEN 100 fundraising campaign
Hankenalumni Riitta and Berndt Brunow have donated 100 000 Euros to the HANKEN 100 fundraising campaign and Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund. "Hanken has given us both a first rate education and unique networks. Through our donation we want to express our gratitude, and at the same time support Hanken in a for the School important developmental phase", the donors say.
Riitta Brunow graduated from Hanken in 1986, Berndt Brunow in 1976. Berndt Brunow chaired the Hanken Foundation between 2003 and 2008, and has been a member of Hanken's board since 2008. Berndt Brunow is currently vice-chairman of Hanken's board and chairman of the board's audit committee.

Liikesivistysrahasto, the Foundation for Economic Education, has donated 150 000 Euros to the HANKEN 100 fundraising campaign and Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund. Through its donation, the foundation wishes to support research and education within the field of economic sciences.
Liikesivistysrahasto was founded by Finnish businessmen in 1919. Today, the foundation has just over 1000 members. The basis for the foundation's operations consists of donations made by businessmen with an appreciation for education and research, and during its first 90 years, the foundation received donations for altogether 80 million Euros. The foundation supports research and education within the field of economic sciences mostly by the means of grants.

Goldman Sachs Gives has donated close to 106 000 Euros to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund at the recommendation of Mr. John Lindfors.
Established in 2007, Goldman Sachs Gives is a donor advised fund through which participating managing directors of the firm recommend grants to certain qualified organizations. Goldman Sachs Gives is designed to harness the collective philanthropic efforts of Goldman Sachs and its people.
John Lindfors graduated from Hanken in 1993. Upon graduation from Hanken, he joined Goldman Sachs in London. John retired as a participating managing director from Goldman Sachs to join Digital Sky Technologies (DST) as a partner in 2010.
UPM donates 100 000 Euros to Hanken's Centnenary Endowment Fund
Bio-forest industry corporation UPM will donate 100 000 Euros to the Hanken's HANKEN 100 fundraising campaign.
"Top-level scientific research creates a foundation for innovations and international success which are prerequisites for the renewal of the forest industry as well as its future success. We want to support these universities in their work to develop and teach top level knowledge and skills", says UPM President and CEO Jussi Pesonen.
UPM consists of three Business Groups: Energy and pulp, Paper, and Engineered materials. The Group employs around 23,000 people and it has production facilities in 15 countries. In 2009, UPM's sales amounted to EUR 7.7 billion.

The Erling-Persson Family Foundation has donated 2.5 million Euros to the HANKEN 100 fundraising campaign and to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund. The donation is the largest yet made to the campaign. "The Erling-Persson Family Foundation wishes to support the high-quality education and research that Hanken stands for. Hanken is a highly interesting recruitment platform for business life", states the board of the foundation.
Rector Eva Liljeblom expresses Hanken's and her own gratitude. "It means a lot to us that the education Hanken offers is in this way appreciated outside the borders of our country. Hanken School of Economics will continue to focus on internationally competitive education and research", says Rector Liljeblom.
The Erling-Persson Family Foundation was founded through donations made in 1999, 2004 and 2010 by H&M Hennes & Mauritz Ab chairman Stefan Persson. The foundation supports scientific research, teaching and education as well as child care and up-bringing.

Hartwall Capital Ltd has donated 100 000 Euros to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund and the HANKEN 100 fundraising campaign.
"Considering our basic principles and values, such as long-term ownership and entrepreneurship, as well as our interest in supporting the development of Finnish business life, it is a natural choice for us to contribute to Hanken's fundraising campaign", says Hanken alumni and Hartwall Capital board member Erik Hartwall.
The Hartwall company was founded in 1836 when Victor Hartwall established Scandinavias's first mineral water factory in Helsinki. During some 170 years the enterprise expanded within the mineral water and also soft-drinks and beer segments. In 2002 the company was merged with British brewery Scottish & Newcastle. Ingman Group Ltd has donated 100 000 Euros to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund and the HANKEN 100 fundraising campaign. "Through this donation, we want to support Hanken as an independent, Swedish-language business school", says Ingman Group's chairman, Hanken alumnus Robert Ingman.
Ingman Group Ltd was founded in 1929. The company is one of Scandinavia's largest manufacturers of ice cream, with operations in Finland, Sweden, the Baltic countries and Belarus. Furthermore, the company has a significant investment business.
The Ahlström-companies donate 100 000 Euros to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund
A. Ahlström Osakeyhtiö and Ahlström Capital Oy have together donated 100 000 Euros to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund and the HANKEN 100 Fundraising Campaign. Both companies were formed in 2001, through the demerger of the original A. Ahlström Osakeyhtiö, established in 1851. Hanken alumnus Morten Ahlström, chairman of Ahlström Capital Oy, says that the Ahlström companies through their donation wish to support Hanken's educational and research work, as well as the school's internationalisation. "Internationality is an important part of our business, and is crucial for Hanken as a future recruiting basis."
Ahlström Capital is a private equity investment company that primarily invests in industrial companies. With billion-euro portfolio net sales, the company is one of the largest private equity investors in Finland. Today, A. Ahlström Osakeyhtiö operates in the areas of real estate and forestry businesses, also providing guest services.
SEFE donates 196 800 euro to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund
SEFE, the Finnish Association of Business School Graduates, has donated 196 800 euros to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund and the HANKEN 100 fundraising campaign.
The association has donated a total of 2 million euros to Finnish universities offering education in the fields business and economics. Donations have been allocated based on, among other things, the amount of business graduates and on the amount of SEFE-members at each university.
Through its donation, SEFE wishes to support economic and business education sciences at Finnish universities. "By developing economic and business education sciences, we are able to increase Finnish competitiveness, which in turn supports our country's prosperity and success. We need business school graduates to, among other things, create, productify and market innovations. Business school graduates are also needed in export trade, in the public sector and in leading positions in various fields. It is important for the association to highlight the impact that economic and business education sciences have on society", says Maria Bäck, first vice chairman of SEFE. The Marcus Wallenberg Foundation for Research in Business Economics donates 150 000 euros to Hanken's Centneray Endowment Fund
The Marcus Wallenberg Foundation for Research in Business Economics has donated 150 000 euros to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund and the HANKEN 100 fundraising campaign. The foundation supports education and research in management, primarily in Finland, but also internationally. Among other things, the foundation awards annual grants for post-grad studies and research. The foundation was established in 1973 by honorary mining counsellor Marcus Wallenberg to cement his amicable relations to Finland and Finnish industry.
"With this donation, the foundation wishes to support Hanken's continued high-class education and research", says Robert G. Ehrnrooth, chairman of the foundation.
The Association of Business School Graduates Ekonomföreningen Niord rf donates 100 000 euros to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund
The Association of Business School Graduates Ekonomföreningen Niord rf has donated 100 000 euros to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund and to the HANKEN 100 fundraising campaign.
This way Niord wants to secure the business education in Swedish in Helsinki and in Vaasa where Niord is active. The decision to support Hanken in this unique project was taken at Niord's annual meeting and has now materialized with this donation.
"By this donation we want to contribute to secure, within the scope of our resources, that competent and competitive business professionals are educated in Swedish in Finland also in the future. This way we also support our future members," says chairman Jerker Hedman.
Niord is the oldest Association of Business School Graduates in Finland. The number of members amounts to 4000 and Niord is thus the largest Swedish speaking Association of Business School Graduates in Finland within SEFE, The Finnish Association of Business School Graduates. The aim of Niord is to act as an interest organisation and to be the doorway in Swedish to SEFE, principally for graduates from Hanken in Helsinki and in Vaasa.

The Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland has donated 1 500 000 euros to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund and the HANKEN 100 fundraising campaign. The donation is the largest donation yet to be made to the campaign, and takes the campaign up to nearly 7.3 million euros in donations.
The purpose of the Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland (Svenska kulturfonden) is to support the cultural and educational aspirations of the Swedish-speaking population in Finland as well as a wide range of other activities promoting Swedish as a minority language in Finland. The fields that receive support cover a wide range of educational and cultural activities.
The foundation was established in 1908 and consists of about 450 individual funds, each with its own background and profile of private donors. Every year, the foundation awards grants and stipends to both organizations and individuals and the budget for the present year amounts to about 33 million euros. The foundation cooperates with a wide range of other foundations and organizations.

Wärtsilä Plc has donated 300 000 euros to the HANKEN 100 fundraisign campaign and Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund. CEO Ole Johansson says that the company wishes to support Hanken's internationalisation and take an active part in HANKEn's future. "Hanken constitutes an important recruitment basis for Wärtsilä both in Helsinki and Vaasa, and by making a donation we feel we are investing in our future employees. In addition, Hanken's campus in Vaasa has a pronounced importance for the local business life - too few Ostrobothnian companies have so far participated in securing the future supply of competent, internationally competitive business education graduates in Ostrobothnia". Wärtsilä is a global leader in complete lifecycle power solutions for the marine and energy markets. In 2009, Wärtsilä's net sales totalled 5.3 billion euros with 18,000 employees. Huhtamäki Plc. has donated 150 000 euros to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund and the HANKEN 100 fundraising campaign. "To commemorate our 90th anniversary, Huhtamäki wishes to support high-quality, Finnish education in the fields of management and economics", says CEO Jukka Moisio, adding that the company through its donation wants to help Hanken strengthen its position as an international expert within education in business and economics, while congratulating the school on its centenary. In 2009 Huhtamäki Plc.'s turnover was close to 2 billion euros. The company is active in 33 countries and has close to 13 000 employees.

The three-year campaign aims to raise 10 million euros to be used for further strengthening Hanken's position as an international business school. Presently, Hanken has received donations to its Centenary Endowment Fund for close to 5.4 million euros. All donations made to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund before 31.12.2010 are multiplied by 3.5 by the government. During 2010 donations between 850 and 250 000 euros are tax deductible for both individuals and corporations.

Hankenalumni Marina and Philip Aminoff have donated 200 000 euros to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund and the HANKEN 100 fundraising campaign. Marina and Philip Aminoff point out that Hanken, despite its relatively small size, has for many years been a pioneer in the fields of economics and business. Mr and Mrs Aminoff also add that during the 21st century, Hanken has strengthened its ties to alumni, trade and industry and well-reputed business schools all over the world. Moreover, the school has succeeded in attracting good researchers and teachers. "Through our donation, we want to support Hanken's further development as a leading, autonomous business school in north-eastern Europe", they sum up their contribution.
Marina and Philip Aminoff both graduated in 1986. Both were active in the student union while studying. Philip Aminoff co-founded Hanken's Alumni Council and chaired the Council in 2004-2008. He has also been a deputy member of Hanken's board. Philip Aminoff has been a Hanken Ambassador since 2008, and was elected Alumnus of the Year in 2009.
Magnus and Henrica Bargum donate 125 000 euros to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund
Hanken alumni Magnus and Henrica Bargum have donated 125 000 euros to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund. "Hanken has signified commitment for us both, and we've always appreciated the start the school has given us", they say. Mr and Mrs Bargum add that Hanken presently has a unique opportunity to profile itself as the country's sole autonomous business school - "Hanken's focal areas are in every way relevant for today's students, for reserach and for the entire country's economic-political basic issues". The donors feel that Hanken's attraction for students, reserachers and teachers both in Finland and abroad is very much dependent upon strong private financing, which enables proper ventures in addition to the state's basic financing.
Magnus Bargum graduated from Hanken in 1971, Henrica Bargum graduated in 1973. As students both were active in the student union's board and are long-time members of the student union's alumni association. Magnus Bargum received an honorary doctorate in conjunction with Hanken's centenary in 2009, and is a long-time member and vice-chairman of the board of Hanken's Foundation. Presently Mr Bargum chairs the Foundation's delegation.

Erik Hartwall and his sons Victor and Kajus Hartwall have donated 200 000 euros to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund. Erik Hartwall graduated from Hanken in 1965 and holds an honorary doctorate from Hanken. Mr Hartwall has also chaired Hanken's foundation, Stiftelsen Svenska handelshögskolan, between 2005 and 2009. Victor Hartwall graduated from Hanken in 1992.
Anonymous donor challenges Hanken's alumni - every donated euro yields seven euros for Hanken
At this year's Hankendagen (2.10.), campaign chair and Hanken alumnus Björn Wahlroos launched the Hanken Alumni Challenge, a fundraising challenge for all Hanken alumni. One of Hanken's alumni has anonymously pledged to personally match alumni donations to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund euro for euro, up to 500 000 euros. Combined with the State's matching scheme - where 1 donated euro yields 2,5 euros - each euro donated via the Alumni Challenge yields seven euros for Hanken.

Karin and Heikki Pentti have donated 300 000 euros to Hanken's Centenary Endowment fund. Heikki Pentti (1946-2008) graduated 1979, and served on Hanken's board of directors. Mr. Pentti was also a delegate of Hanken's Foundation, Stiftelsen Svenska handelshögskolan. "Hanken played an important part in my husband's life, he was proud of and grateful for the education and social network the school gave him", says Karin Pentti. "Before passing away, Heikki had decided to contribute to his alma mater. Through this donation, the family wishes to honour Heikki's memory and also commemorate Hanken's centenary".

The Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation has donated 1 000 000 euros to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund. The donation is the largest donation yet to be received since the start of the HANKEN 100 fundraising campaign in March 2009.
The Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation supports scholarly research, promotes care and education of children and supports teaching and education. The Foundation was founded in 1963 by Doctor of Technology Marcus Wallenberg to commemorate his wife Marianne's 70th birthday.
"We are most grateful for this very generous gift to our Centenary Endowment Fund", says Rector Marianne Stenius. The Saara and Björn Wahlroos Foundation has donated 750 000 euro to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund.
"The University reform seems to be heading in the right direction. We need more independent universities and private funding. We feel it is important to support Hanken in particluar, along with the school's continued internationalization", says Björn Wahlroos, chairman of the foundation and Hanken alumnus.
The Saara and Björn Wahlroos foundation was established in 2002 to support and encourage research and debate on financial and social issues. Based on its endowment, it provides grants and other means of support to scholars, researchers, journalists and others engaged in public debate or scholarly work on pertinent social and economic issues.

Lena and Mikael Lilius donate 250 000 euros to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund
Hankenalumni Lena and Mikael Lilius have donated 250 000 euros to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund. The donors emphasize Hanken's unique position as Finland's only autonomous business school, and say that they through their donation wish to support the school's internationalisation and contribute to the school's high-class education.
Lena and Mikael Lilius graduated from Hanken in 1975. Mikael Lilius holds an honorary doctorate from Hanken and chairs the Hanken Ambassadors.
The Louise and Göran Ehrnrooth Foundation first to contribute to HANKEN 100
The Louise and Göran Ehrnrooth Foundation has donated 750 000 euros to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund. The foundation wishes to commemorate the school's centenary celebration. The donation is the first to be made to the HANKEN 100 fundraising campaign.
"This donation is a natural way of commemorating Hanken's 100 years and the present fundraising campaign, which in every way adheres to foundation's purposes. I do hope many other prospective donors follow our lead", says Göran J. Ehrnrooth, Hankenalumnus and chairman of the Louise and Göran Ehrnrooth Foundation.
The Louise and Göran Ehrnrooth foundation was established in 1991 with the purpose of supporting industry, agriculture and charitable work in Finland. The foundation rewards individuals and societies which permanently contribute to society and the Finnish economy.
Martina and Henrik Andersin make a gift of 150 000 euros to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund
Hanken alumni Martina and Henrik Andersin have donated 150 000 euros to Hanken's Centenary Endowment Fund. The donors hope their donation will aid Hanken in its endeavour to further strengthen its position as an international business school. "Hanken's education is of high quality, and the international focus of the school is a natural direction to further develop the Scandinavian and Northern European networks. We wish Hanken much success!", say Martina and Henrik Andersin.
Martina Andersin graduated from Hanken in 1985, Henrik Andersin graduated 1984. Martina Andersin also holds an MBA from Hanken. Henrik Andersin chairs the board of directors of the Hanken Foundation, and is a member of Hanken's board of directors.
