Kursbeskrivning

Students learn about qualitative research approaches and philosophy of science as well as develop skills to solve problems in the field of business and for theory building purposes. Students will learn to collect, analyse, document and evaluate qualitative data, such as interviews, observations, pictures, films and narratives.

Lärandemål

After the course the student can:
• distinguish main research approaches in business research
• produce and assess method knowledge particularly pertinent to qualitative studies, and demonstrate this in
• planing and independently collecting, documenting and analyzing qualitative data in a research task as well as
• reflect on and critically assess their results

Förkunskaper

The course is designed for students in the Master's Degree Programme in Marketing and Master's Degree Programme in International Management. A small number of students of Integrated Master's Programmes and exchange students can be accepted upon application. Applicants are ranked according to course credits and grades. The FUM course (7777) has to be passed by all students from an Integrated Master's Programme (bachelor students of Hanken).

Undervisningsformer

Students are expected to prepare for and actively participate in class. Detailed instructions will be provided in the course syllabus. Students will complete several assignments which are graded. The assignments aim to improve the students' ability to use, analyse and document qualitative research, to demonstrate their knowledge of the methods literature and its application in practice.

Bedömning och examination

Assignments during the course. Please note that written assignments will be checked for plagiarism.

Ytterligare information

All assignments are valid for one academic year, thereafter if the course is not completed it has to be retaken.
