Performance measurement and aid effectiveness in humanitarian logistics
Time: Dec 14, 2007 at 8:30-16:00
Place: Hanken in Helsinki, room 210
Hanken organises a practitioner seminar in relation to a project on humanitarian logistics (HUMLOG). The topic of the seminar is performance measurement and aid effectiveness in humanitarian logistics. The seminar is a combination of an alumni seminar in Supply Chain Management and Corporate Geography and a workshop for humanitarian organisations.
The seminar will begin with a discussion on current issues in Darfur with
Pekka Haavisto, former EU Special Representative for Sudan. After Haavisto's presentation international humanitarian organisations as well as logistics companies discuss their views on logistics measurement and aid effectiveness. Prof.
Lauri Ojala presents his latest report for the World Bank on a "Logistics Performance Index", and
Håkan Aronsson, the author of a book on Logistics Performance Measurement leads a workshop for alumni and humanitarian organisations.
The seminar day is part of a series of events related to an international research project on humanitarian logistics (
HUMLOG). Humanitarian logistics has gained significant attention following recent major disasters and the recognition of its central role in responding to these.
The aim of the HUMLOG Group is to research the area of humanitarian logistics in disaster preparedness, response and recovery with the intention of influencing future activities in a way that will provide measurable benefits to persons requiring assistance. HUMLOG Group aims to combine academic expertise with practitioner experience and it is for this reason that the UNJLC with its NGOs are active participants within the network.
