The Hanken Library

Lending rules

Borrowing

The Hanken library's primary focus groups are students, teachers and researchers, but customers from outside the school are equally welcome.

In order to borrow books, request a library card at the service desk (bring photographic identification). Student cards can also be used. Showing the card is required when borrowing or renewing books. The card is personal and the customer is responsible for the material that is borrowed with it - report missing ones immediately, as well as changes in personal information.

Loan periods

  • Course books: 7 days.
  • Other books: 28 days.
  • Reading room copies from one hour before closing to 10:00 the next morning the library is open.

Staff can keep 28-day books for an entire year, but they need to be returned if someone else makes a reservation.

Theses, journals and reference books are not available for use outside of the library.

Returns and late items

When the library is closed, books can be returned in the box outside the library's main entrance. When the school is closed, books can be returned through the slot on the Perhokatu side of the building.

Items returned after the due date incur a fee:

  • Course books: 0,70 €/book/day
  • Other books: 0,50 €/book/day
  • Reading room copies: immediate 15€ fine at 10:00.

An email notification is sent one day before the due date, but ultimately it is the responsibility of the borrower to return items on time. When items are late, two reminders will be followed by an invoice. Unpaid invoices are handled by Intrum Justitia on behalf of Hanken.

When fines or fees reach 10 euros, borrowing new items is blocked.

Reservations

Unavailable items can be reserved for 1 euro by logging in to Hanna or contacting the service desk. An email will be sent when the item is available for pickup. Reservations for course books that remain unclaimed for 7 days incur an extra 1 euro fee and are canceled. Customers should proactively cancel reservations that are no longer needed in order to avoid the fees.

Weekend loans of reading room copies can only be reserved at the library.
