Two new Professors of Marketing were appointed at Hanken School of Economics in the beginning of 2015.

Peter Björk has been appointed Professor of Marketing at the Department of Marketing at Hanken School of Economics, Vaasa.

Peter Björk obtained his PhD degree at Hanken in 1994 and has held a number of faculty positions at the School, most recently as Associate Professor of Marketing. He has also been nominated Teacher of the Year.

Björk has already had a long research and teaching career, and he has extensive experience of participating in and leading both national and international research and development projects.

“I am very happy about the nomination and it gives me further opportunities to develop and contribute to the development of Hanken and marketing as a subject”, says professor Björk. “The research environment in Vaasa can be enhanced by cooperation and projects, which is something I will work hard for”, he continues.

Björk’s research interests include service marketing, consumer behavior, brand management, tourism marketing, sustainable tourism, and destination development.

Kristina Heinonen has been appointed Professor of Service and Relationship Marketing at Hanken School of Economics, Helsinki.

Kristina Heinonen has held a Tenure Track position in Service and Relationship Marketing at Hanken School of Economics. In accordance with the terms of the position, she has made significant advances not only in research and teaching, but also in institutional contributions so as to fulfil the prerequisites necessary to be called to a professorship.

Hanken introduced the Tenure Track system in 2006 as the first university in Finland. The Tenure Track system is based on a career model employed by leading universities in the USA. The system offers young, promising researchers a time-limited qualification position, after which they are to be qualified for a professorship. Heinonen is the third of the Tenure Track researchers appointed in 2006 who have achieved a professorship.

Since 2010, Heinonen is also Director of CERS Centre for Relationship Marketing and Service Management, one of the world’s leading service research centres.

“The research in service and relationships at Hanken is high class in an international comparison. I strive to make this knowledge accessible to industry practice in Finland through closer collaboration. Additionally, we need to further strengthen our international presence and influence”, says Professor Heinonen.

In her research, Heinonen studies how customers experience service and the different kinds of relationships they have with firms, how a customer dominant logic changes the activities of companies, as well as how technology such as social media creates new challenges for firms’ service and customer relationships.
